SAFETY & QUALITY MANAGEMENT

Systems that function in practice.

Orion implements and supports practical Safety Management Systems and Quality Management Systems for UAS operators and Aviation Training Organisations.

From hazard reporting and risk controls to internal audits and corrective action, we help turn formal requirements into working systems your operation can use.

SAFETY AND QUALITY IN PRACTICE

A management system only adds value when people use it.

Policies and manuals provide the framework. Day-to-day reporting, review and follow-through make the system real.

Orion helps connect documented requirements with operational activity so hazards are visible, responsibilities are understood, actions are tracked and evidence is available for internal and regulatory oversight.

OUR SCOPE

Build the framework. Strengthen the operation.

Support can be structured around a new implementation, a focused gap review or the ongoing management of an established system.

01

SMS framework and implementation

A practical structure for safety policy, responsibilities, reporting, risk control, assurance and safety communication.

02

Hazard identification and risk management

Processes to capture hazards, assess risk, assign controls and retain a clear record of decisions.

03

Safety reporting and corrective action

Reporting channels, investigation workflows and action tracking that support timely follow-through.

04

QMS and compliance monitoring

A quality framework for planned monitoring, documented checks and oversight of regulatory and internal requirements.

05

Internal audits and management review

Audit programmes, findings management and structured review of system performance by accountable leadership.

06

ATO quality documentation

Support for Part 141 quality documentation, training-system traceability and related records according to the organisation’s approval scope.

OUR APPROACH

A clear path from requirement to routine.

01

Understand the operation

We establish the approval basis, operating model, people, activities and existing controls.

02

Map requirements and gaps

We compare current arrangements with the applicable regulations, technical standards and approved documentation.

03

Implement systems and controls

We develop practical workflows, responsibilities, registers and records that fit the operation.

04

Monitor, review and improve

We support audits, action closure, management review and updates as the organisation changes.

WHERE WE ASSIST

Support shaped around the system you have today.

NEW OR DEVELOPING SYSTEMS

Build the foundations around your actual operation.

We help define responsibilities, reporting lines, risk processes, audit controls and the records needed to demonstrate implementation.

ESTABLISHED OPERATIONS

Test, strengthen and maintain system performance.

We review how the system is functioning, identify gaps, support corrective action and help keep documentation aligned as the organisation evolves.

OPERATIONAL VALUE

Stronger systems create safer, more resilient operations.

The objective is not paperwork for its own sake. It is a working management system that gives leaders better visibility and teams a clear way to respond.

Visible risk

Hazards, assessments and controls are captured in a form that can be reviewed and acted upon.

Clear accountability

Responsibilities and escalation paths are defined across safety and quality activities.

Controlled corrective action

Findings and incidents lead to assigned actions, evidence and closure.

Evidence for oversight

Records support internal governance, management review and regulatory engagement.

BEYOND IMPLEMENTATION

Management systems require continued attention.

Orion can remain alongside your team with scheduled audits, compliance monitoring, action tracking, operational reviews and system updates.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Practical answers before we begin.

What is the difference between an SMS and a QMS?

An SMS focuses on identifying and managing safety risk. A QMS focuses on whether processes and controls consistently meet regulatory, approved and internal requirements. They are distinct systems, but they work best when responsibilities, records and review processes are aligned.

The applicable requirements depend on the organisation, approval type and scope of activity. Orion first confirms the regulatory basis and then defines the system components and evidence relevant to that operation.

Yes. A focused gap analysis can test documentation, implementation and evidence against the applicable requirements and the way the operation currently works.

What does a gap analysis cover?

The scope may include governance, responsibilities, hazard and risk processes, reporting, compliance monitoring, audit arrangements, corrective action, management review, records and alignment with approved manuals.

Yes. Support can include audit planning, evidence review, findings registers, root-cause analysis, corrective-action tracking and preparation of closure evidence. Final acceptance remains subject to the relevant authority or approval process.

They require scheduled review and updates when regulations, approvals, people, equipment, training or operating conditions change. Ongoing monitoring also helps identify where controls need to be strengthened.
